Over 500 young members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints from Western Visayas gathered at the five-day "For the Strength of Youth" conference held at Punta Villa Resort in Iloilo City from July 17 to 22, 2023.
The conference offers opportunities for youth aged 14 to 18 to develop spiritually, socially, physically, and intellectually, while also nourishing their faith in the Savior, Jesus Christ. This year's FSY Theme is an excerpt from Philippians 4:13: “I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.”
Young Men General President Steven J. Lund, who came from Church Headquarters in Salt Lake City, Utah, USA, spoke during an inspiring devotional. He shared the importance of constantly remembering our grand design, especially amid turbulent times of disinformation and duplicity.
“I am a beloved son of God. The reason that we memorize that is because the world is trying to change your identity. Trying to get you to think you’re something you’re not. They want you... to reconsider what you are existentially. And yet, the Prophet, seers, and revelators that oversee this Church saw that coming and have us all declaring that we know exactly who we are," he said.
“I am a beloved son of God; I am a beloved daughter of Heavenly parents, and He has a work for me made to do and I have a divine destiny," he added.
Many young men and women participated during the devotional, taking the opportunity to ask questions to President Lund and bear their testimonies to attendees.
“Jesus can make you whole and [understand] that everything was made by divine design. [The FSY Conference] made me feel the Spirit so strongly and inspired me to make better choices and stay on the right path," Natasha Phoebe Webster said.
"President Lund focused on the Savior which reminded me of the reason why we are serving, and I honestly felt my burdens became lighter. Focusing on others and not ourselves allows us to be magnified by the Lord and witness His work through [each other]," Arflor Blancaver, an assistant coordinator of the Western Visayas FSY Conference, also shared.
The FSY conference in Western Visayas was held for young members of the Antique District, Kalibo Stake, and Roxas Stake (diocese).
