Church Donates Chairs, TVs, and Literacy Resources to Tanza High School

As part of its ongoing commitment to support quality education in the Philippines, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints donated 1,000 monobloc armchairs, six smart TVs, and additional learning materials to Tanza National Comprehensive High School (TNCHS) on September 6, 2024.

In addition, the Church provided 20 tables, 20 whiteboards, and 50 sets of peer-to-peer tutor kits, along with plastic storage containers and supplementary educational materials. These resources are intended to enhance the learning environment for TNCHS students, helping them better understand their studies and improve their literacy skills.

TNCHS Principal Dr. Florencio C. Costa, Senior High School Teacher-in-Charge Albert A. Balanza, and Supreme Secondary Learner Government President Icon Shane C. Respondo were among those present to receive the donations during the turnover ceremony.

In his remarks, Dr. Costa expressed his gratitude for the Church’s continued partnership with TNCHS. “Your generosity means everything to us. The majority of our students come from low-income households, so these donations will truly make a difference,” he said.

Due to its large student population, TNCHS, which serves over 11,000 students from the Tanza area, has long faced a shortage of chairs and tables.

“These resources will significantly enhance our ability to deliver quality education and create an engaging learning environment for our students. We are fortunate to have such supportive partners who help us educate our students,” said Ms. Clarisse Anne L. Cuyom, a teacher from the Junior High School Department.

Church representatives at the event included President Marcelino Balderama of the Naic Philippines Stake, Bishop Arnold Gonzales of the Tanza Ward, and humanitarian missionaries, among others.

President Balderama, in his brief message, emphasized that the project is an expression of the Church’s commitment to Jesus Christ’s commandment to "love thy neighbor as thyself" and to be united. “This project helps these students feel the presence of God in their lives. God lives. Through our efforts, they will know that God is always at their side. We are His hands and voice,” he said.

Education reduces poverty, improves health, strengthens societies, and builds self-reliance. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints supports education through various initiatives, including financial aid, affordable online learning, scholarship programs, job training, humanitarian aid, and self-reliance courses.

The humanitarian efforts of The Church of Jesus Christ in the Philippines are an expression of its members' willingness to follow Jesus Christ's example of love, service, and compassion, especially to those who are in need.

Apart from education-related support, the Church also collaborates with the government, other religious groups, and non-profit organizations to feed the hungry, support those with health and disability challenges, provide or enhance access to clean water and sanitation, respond to emergency situations, including disasters such as typhoons, earthquakes, fire, floods, and conflict, and implement other community care initiatives.

In addition to its humanitarian efforts, the Church continues to spread the Gospel of Jesus Christ and is constructing more sacred temples in the Philippines, including the Alabang Philippines Temple. This temple will serve members of the Church living in southern Metro Manila, Cavite, and nearby areas. Once completed, it will provide a place for Latter-day Saints to participate in sacred ordinances and further their spiritual growth.
