Elder Kearon and Archbishop David Meet to Discuss Shared Concerns for Filipino Communities

Elder Patrick Kearon of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints met with Most Rev. Pablo Virgilio David, Bishop of the Diocese of Kalookan and President of the Catholic Bishops' Conference of the Philippines, during a brief meeting in Manila on Wednesday, August 21, 2024.

Elder Carlos G. Revillo Jr., the Philippines Area President, also joined the meeting. This marked the second time in two years that Elder Kearon and Archbishop David have met.

Their discussion focused on common interests shared by Filipino Catholics and Latter-day Saints, including human rights, caring for the poor and needy, promoting good governance, expanding access to quality education, and protecting the environment.

The leaders also explored ways to support each other’s efforts in serving Filipinos and expressed hope for further collaboration through interfaith harmony and joint actions, particularly in projects where both churches can offer mutual support.

Following the meeting, Elder Kearon and Elder Revillo presented Archbishop David with a limited edition framed brass sculpture titled "Christ and the Young Child" as a token of appreciation.

Interfaith Relations

Since the early days of the Restoration, prophets have emphasized mutual respect and a deeper understanding between Church members and people of other faiths. Although individuals may have different names and perceptions of Deity, every human being is a child of the same God.

For the Church, fostering relationships with people of other faiths and traditions is important. Church leaders actively seek opportunities to learn about other religions, connect with their leaders, and understand how their beliefs shape their lives and the lives of those they serve.
