The Civil Military Operations Group of the Philippine Navy presented a plaque of appreciation to LDS Charities (LDSC) on the occasion of their 5th year anniversary on 17 February 2016 at the Marine Barracks Rudiardo Brown, Fort Bonifacio, Taguig City.
The celebration was anchored on the theme, CMOG-PN@5: Sustaining the Lead in Enpowering Internal and External Stakeholders through Civil-Military Partnerships. One of the highlights of the activity was the giving of awards to partners-stakeholders who were instrumental in the accomplishment of the unit’s mission.
Wheelchair Training and Distribution is one of 6 major initiatives of LDS Charities for which the Philippine Navy has been its strong partner for the past several years. The project includes training technicians how to assess a patient so that a custom fit wheelchair can be provided to the recipient. Technicians are also taught about the parts and proper maintenance of a wheelchair and its proper use.
Several Navy personnel have already been certified as wheelchair technicians and have readily performed assessments to physically challenged individuals. The Navy also facilitates the distribution of wheelchair to different parts of the country.
Elder and Sister Soleta, service missionaries from the Church Welfare Department, received the plaque on behalf of LDS Charities, the humanitarian arm of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
“This plaque is an expression of gratitude from the Navy to LDS Charities for being a significant partner in empowering communities, and for actively supporting the Philippine Navy’s civil military operations activities,” Soleta said.
