Buendia Chapel, the oldest religious structure of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Philippines will celebrate its 50th anniversary this year. Elder Steven E. Snow of the Quorum of the Seventy and Church Historian, and local Mormon pioneers will take members down memory lane on 06 March, 6:00 pm, as they share and recount how the Church started in the Philippines through an event called “Travel Back in Time: A Pioneers' Night.”
The event, with Buendia Chapel as venue, will have Filipino pioneers share their conversion stories and how the Church was like way back in the early years. Attendees will have a chance to view never-before-seen pictures flashed on screen from old collections and from the Church History Library.
Melanie Gapiz, Philippines Area Historian said, “This event will be something different. It will be fun, definitely not boring as how others may perceive history to be. We want to appeal to the youth and help them appreciate Church history. We will even have a photo wall where they can take their selfies.”
“Learning about the history of the Church helps us appreciate the gospel even more. Keeping records is of paramount importance. The scriptures that we have now are records of stories that happened in the past that help strengthen our faith,” she added.
