Members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints sustained eight new General Authority Seventies during the Saturday afternoon session of the 191st Semiannual General Conference on 3 April 2021.
One of the eight global Church leaders is a native from the Philippines, Elder Carlos G. Revillo, Jr.
Born and raised in General Santos City, South Cotabato, serving the Lord has always been a huge part in the life of Elder Revillo. Since childhood, it has been his desire to serve a full-time mission. However, Elder Revillo revealed that attending college in Manila challenged that desire.
He decided to defer serving a mission for one year to finish his five-year chemical engineering degree and pass the licensure examination.
Elder Revillo shared that his plan to go on a full-time mission was pushed further behind after he landed in the top five in the board exam and received several job offers from multinational companies.
“During that I had to ask myself: ‘Do I really want to serve a mission?’” he said. “I had to pray and really look at what I believe. … Do I really know that Joseph Smith was a true prophet and that the Book of Mormon was true?”
Through prayer and the faith of his mother who prayed and fasted for him, Elder Revillo shared that the Spirit touched his heart. This made him decide to serve a full-time mission.
“My testimony was fully galvanized when I served a full-time mission,” said Elder Revillo. “All of the blessings that I have now, I attribute to that critical decision.”
Carlos Garcia Revillo, Jr. was born on 8 November 1965 to Carlos G. Revillo, Sr. and Amparo Garcia Revillo. He married Marites Enriquez Fernando Revillo on 12 September 1989 at the Manila Philippines Temple.
Elder Revillo is a graduate from the University of Santo Tomas. He worked in various management positions for Procter & Gamble Philippines, the Asia-Pacific region and at the company’s global headquarters in the United States. He was also head of quality, food safety and regulatory affairs in Asia for Kellog Co.
Prior to his call as General Authority Seventy, Elder Revillo was the manager for the Church’s Welfare and Self-reliance Department in the Philippines. He has also served in various Church assignments, which included full-time missionary in the Philippines Bacolod Mission, bishop, stake president, high councilor, seminary teacher and president of the Philippines Quezon City Mission.
President Dallin H. Oaks of the First Presidency of the Church announced the call of Elder Revillo and seven other General Authorities.
