Latter-day Saint Charities (LDSC) has donated five (5) biothermal transport boxes and 50,000 immunization cards to the Department of Health (DOH) Region V. The items were part of the US $200,000 (Php 10M) donation in support of the National Immunization Program (NIP) of the DOH, allocated for 17 regions around the country.
The donations were officially transferred during a formal handover ceremony hosted by the Church last April 5, 2022, at the Legazpi Stake (diocese) Center. Dr. Ernie Vera, Region V Director, accepted the donations in behalf of DOH. President Rodrigo Dorosan of the Legazpi Stake represented the Church in the event.
Also in attendance were Legazpi City Mayor Noel E. Rosal, City Health Officer Dr. Fulbert Alec R. Gillego, and Dr. Desiree Bricenio, Regional NIP Manager, among others.
Dr. Vera expressed his thanks for the logistic donations received and the partnership between LDSC and the DOH, saying it was a big help, especially during this time of recovery from COVID.
“Nagpapasalamat po kami saindo sa LDSC sa satuya pong partnership sa pagtao po kaining mga logistics kaini. Dakulang tabang po iyan especially po ngunyan na we are just hopefully recovering from the effects of Covid”, he shared in the local Bicolano dialect.
Mayor Rosal also lauded the partnership. “This is about partnership at its best. As we all know, the local government in partnership with the DOH and the private sector came up with a very aggressive vaccination program in Albay that paved the way in making us all safe. I would like to grab this opportunity to thank all our private partners for initiating their own version of commitment to making our people safe, especially through our vaccination program,” he said during his remarks.
According to Dr. Desiree Bricenio, the NIP in the Bicol Region benefits approximately 815,325 children. The biothermal boxes and immunization cards given to DOH Region V will help support the immunization program in communities surrounding Camarines Norte, Camarines Sur, Albay, Sorsogon and islands of Catanduanes and Masbate.
