Music truly feeds the soul. Dr. Sunbeam Choi, a renowned Latter-day Saint pianist, gave the crowd at Buhangin Chapel a musical and spiritual experience to remember on the night of January 6, 2023. It was an inspiring musical event full of diversity. The chapel opened its doors to members along with their invited family, friends, and neighbors, garnering approximately 420 attendees to collectively experience the heartfelt wonders of love through music. Weeks have already passed, yet Dr. Sunbeam Choi’s heartfelt performance continues to touch the hearts of many.
"Profound, uplifting, and high level of performance." Are phrases described by Coris Taffershofer of the Focolare Movement Philippines. "Through music, he posed the possibility to connect with God, and we found it to be very peaceful; the atmosphere is full of love," added her companion, Micarla Xavier de Farias of the same interfaith movement.
“It was an evening of music without words, but Dr. Sunbeam Choi never failed to convey the message in every piece that he played. Merely listening to it uplifted my very soul,” accounted Ms. Jane Miranda, an Immediate Past President of the Kiwanis International Club of Greener Davao.
The inspiring words from Dr. Sunbeam Choi after each song make the concert even more heartening. He expressed the outpouring of gratitude his heart feels whenever he thinks about his Redeemer’s atoning sacrifice for our sins. "Through His gospel, we can all be happy; He was a perfect man, but He was persecuted, and even though He didn’t have to do it, He chose to sacrifice himself so that He could prepare a way for all of us to go back to Him," he added.
Invitees from the local government, City Councilor, Hon. Wilfredo "Nonoy" E. Al-ag humbly referred to the concert as one of the best piano shows he has ever seen in his whole life. “My wife, who is also a devoted pianist, can attest to how amazing and touching it is. Two-thumbs up for everyone–congratulations,” he remarked. Media teams such as GMA Regional TV Davao, The Mindanao Times, the Philippine Information Agency, DXGM-Super Radyo, and Davao RSMA Network Inc. also attended to witness the area-wide event.
Elder Yoon Hwan Choi, Second Counselor to the Philippines Area Presidency, and father of Dr. Sunbeam Choi shared the highlights of his son’s musical journey in his closing remarks, and just like Dr. Sunbeam Choi, we can truly and simply share His light with others through the gift of music and excerpts of our talents.
