Members of the Zamboanga Philippines Stake (diocese) of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints led the launching of Fogging Kontra Covid, a misting and disinfecting initiative in Barangay Culianan, Zamboanga City, on April 24, 2021.
The current pandemic heavily hit Zamboanga City with active cases spread rapidly across communities, surging to 1,129 from 39 on April 19, 2021. Joining the global fight against Covid-19, the Church, in collaboration with Gold Live Studio, Goldstone Marketing, Trading, General Merchandising Inc., Alberei Advertising Corporation, and Emedia Broadcasting Network Inc., have identified Barangay Culianan for its pilot initiative.
Barangay officials, including Brgy. Captain Anastacio Limen, has expressed their gratitude to the Church and its partners. Councilor Mark Anthony Saavedra also acknowledged that the activity was timely due to the current Covid-19 surge in the city. "We are very appreciative of this effort. Disinfecting at this time is important to us to keep our leaders and community safe. I am happy to have found new friends in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints", he added.
Lorelie Saavedra, President of Goldstone Marketing, remarked, "We are happy to work with the Church as we take part in providing meaningful contributions to the society. This initiative is built on a common concern in helping the government in its fight against coronavirus. We believe that community effort is vital and that various groups could put their acts together". Goldstone Marketing and Alberei Advertising Corp. provided the equipment, mobilization, and other needed materials.
Presently, the Church actively coordinates with various barangays to continue the initiative.
