The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints turned over the equipment and materials needed to set up a proper handwashing facility for students of Sto. Angel Elementary School (SAES) in San Pablo City, Laguna, last July 13, 2023.
Helping build personal hygiene facilities in schools supports the Department of Education’s (DepEd) Wash in Schools (WINS) program, which promotes the reduction of infectious diseases and the improvement of sanitation coverage in public schools around the country.
SAES School Principal Lea Decano and other faculty members expressed gratitude to the Church for its humanitarian assistance. “We are grateful for the love and support given not only to our school but to the students [of SAES] as well,” she said.
Elder Brendan and Sister Patricia Hayne, humanitarian service missionaries of the Church, thanked the school leaders and faculty members for their untiring dedication to the students.
Sister Hayne, who was a former Special Education teacher, invited the teachers to continue helping children come closer to the Savior Jesus Christ. She also shared with them the Savior’s words from the Book of Matthew: “Suffer little children and forbid them not to come unto me: for of such is the kingdom of heaven.”
President Sander Guevarra of San Pablo Philippines Stake (diocese) also emphasized in his message the Church’s dedication to follow the Savior’s example to love and serve each other. “Showing love to thy neighbor [through service] is key to following Jesus Christ,” he said.
The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints teaches its members to show love to others through sharing resources and giving service. It is a fundamental part of the Church's beliefs—and has been since its early days.
Members of the Church try to follow the example of Jesus Christ in caring for those in need—regardless of location, race, nationality, gender, religious belief, or political affiliation—without expectation of return.
