Church Gives Free Medical Services To Residents of Sto. Tomas

In partnership with Mabuhay Deseret Foundation, the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints provided free medical services to more than 350 residents in Sto. Tomas, Davao Del Norte, during a 2-day Medical Mission on August 11 and 19, 2022.

The diagnostic services offered include eye, cleft lip & cleft palate, clubfoot, and prosthesis consultations.

"I'm very happy about the free eyeglasses! I can clearly see when reading now," Teresita Estores, one of the beneficiaries, said after availing of the free eye-check-up and reading glasses.

Sto. Tomas Municipal Mayor Roland S. Dejesica expressed his gratitude, citing how it helped members of their community, especially those who need medical attention but may not have the time or financial means to seek a professional diagnosis.

Dr. Noel Catalan and Dr. Desidario Delfin conducted eye check-ups and shared their experience during the event. "We've been to many free clinics over the years, but this one is unique because of the remarkable support of your Church members, who made the process smooth and easy for the recipients and us," Dr. Catalan stated.

The collective efforts of many individuals have attributed to the success of the second leg of the joint medical mission initiated by the Panabo District (diocese). The first was held in New Visayas, Panabo, and another is expected to take place in Carmen, Davao Del Norte this year.

"I'm thrilled that our branch members are involved in organizing the first medical mission here in Sto. Tomas. I have witnessed the recipients' happiness upon receiving free reading eyeglasses, especially the senior citizens," Raymond A. Lagundi, President (diocese) of Sto. Tomas Branch emphasized. "They are truly grateful that The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has provided this service. We hope there will be more of these events in the future," he added.
