Church Donates Smart TVs, Tables, and Chairs to Maa National High School

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints reaffirmed its commitment to supporting quality education in the Philippines with a generous donation to Maa National High School (MNHS) in Davao City. On November 15, the Church officially turned over twelve (12) smart TVs, 1,000 monobloc chairs, and materials for tables during a ceremony at the school.

These donations aim to enhance the learning environment for the school's 3,548 students and 132 teachers, providing them with resources that will help improve academic performance and overall student engagement.

"Your support has made a profound impact on our students, providing them with essential resources and opportunities that would not have been possible otherwise," said MNHS Principal Maribeth V. Alcordo during the ceremony. "I know your kindness and commitment to education will encourage an environment where every student feels valued, empowered, and motivated to succeed."

According to Ms. Margie L. Jaron, Grade 8 adviser, the school is excited to receive smart TVs for the first time. "The TVs will help us deliver quality lessons. Teachers can now easily use PowerPoint slides and interactive videos, making learning more fun and memorable for our students," she explained.

For years, MNHS has faced challenges with a shortage of chairs and tables. Ms. Jaron recalled that teachers used to provide chairs for the students. "The chairs and tables are a great help since our school did not have enough furniture. This is such a big help, and now students can focus better on their lessons without the distraction of lacking basic necessities," she added.

Church representatives at the event included Edgardo Fernando, Director of Temporal Affairs, Anthony John Balledos, Humanitarian Country Manager, and Rizaldito Castro, Priesthood leader of the Davao Philippines Stake (diocese).

In his remarks, Fernando emphasized that the Church’s humanitarian efforts are rooted in the Savior’s two great commandments: “To love God and our neighbor.” He added, "As part of this mandate, we aim to make a positive impact in communities by meeting spiritual and temporal needs, including providing educational resources that empower individuals and families to be more self-reliant."

Fernando also shared the Church's belief in the transformative power of education, saying, "Education is a cornerstone of self-reliance. It reduces poverty, improves health, strengthens communities, and builds a more sustainable future. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is committed to support education through many initiatives, including scholarships, financial aid, job training, and self-reliance programs."

Fernando concluded his message by inviting people to visit the nearby Davao Philippines Temple once it opens, emphasizing the Church’s ongoing efforts to foster spiritual growth in the region.

In addition to supporting education, the Church continues collaborating with government agencies, other religious organizations, and non-profits to address a wide range of community needs. These efforts include feeding the hungry, providing healthcare and disability support, improving access to clean water and sanitation, and responding to natural disasters such as typhoons, earthquakes, and floods.
