“Education is a good investment because it provides many opportunities. We should really take advantage of gaining the best education we possibly can have,” said President Darwin Cauilan, Philippines Cavite Mission Leader, during the handover of educational equipment donated by Latter-day Saint Charities (LDSC) to the Department of Education (DepEd) Schools Division Office (SDO) in San Pedro City, Laguna on November 23, 2021.
The donation included a duplicator machine, 10,000 reams of bond papers, and ink. These school supplies and equipment are part of LDSC’s ongoing operations to support children’s education by providing needed items for printing and photocopying learning modules.

Dr. Lourdes Bermudez, San Pedro City DepEd SDO Superintendent, thanked the Church for its generous gifts: “These donations will augment the need to print modules for our students. On behalf of the teachers in our schools, we thank you and we hope that we will continue to work together to help our students and educators.”
A Certificate of Appreciation was presented to LDSC for its untiring effort in supporting the educational needs of students. Presenting the certificate was DepEd SDO representative Ms. Shirley J. Britos who said, “This is such a big help to our students. Your organization is a great blessing and we pray that you will continue to bless the lives of many children in the Philippines. May God reward you for your kindness.”
Highlighting the Church’s commitment to helping the community, President Cauilan shared, “All of us are brothers and sisters, sons and daughters of God. He expects us to serve each other and give time and effort to help those in need. Charity, or the pure love of Christ, is not just about what we give but it’s also about what we have become.”
Gracing the handover ceremony were Ms. Lucia Tolentino, DepEd Project Development Officer (PDO) HT-III; Police Corporal Emerson C. Co., San Pedro City Philippine National Police representative; Sister Michelle Cauilan, Philippines Cavite mission leader; Kennedy Miñoza, Jhasz Alvarado, and Carlit Miranda, Cavite Communication Council members; Romeo Elisan, Las Piñas Philippines Stake (diocese) Communication Council; and other local Church leaders and members.
Latter-day Saint Charities
Sponsored by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Latter-day Saint Charities (LDSC) is an application of the admonition of Jesus Christ to help others in need. Jesus Christ taught His followers to give meat to the hungry and drink to those who thirst. His gospel includes taking in the stranger, loving neighbors as self, and visiting those who are sick or imprisoned. He taught that we love and care for each other, visit the fatherless and widows in their afflictions, and lift those whose hands hang down and whose knees are feeble.
Unique in its support structure, LDSC has access to the resources of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, which include food production and processing, donated used clothing, employment and social services, and the ability to purchase goods locally in many parts of the world. We sponsor relief and development projects in 179 countries.
