The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints recently donated medical equipment and supplies to the local government of Roxas, Palawan, reinforcing its ongoing partnership with municipal leaders and health officials in support of public health.
The turnover ceremony was held on July 30, 2025, at the Roxas Municipal Conference Hall. It was attended by municipal leaders and health workers led by Dr. Lei Dominique Parreño, and Church representatives led by President Diosdado Baniago of the Puerto Princesa Philippines Stake (diocese) and Bishop Jaworsquim Bontoyan of the Roxas Ward (congregation). Also present were Welfare Missionaries Elder and Sister Gardner.
The donation included a Gene Xpert machine to improve tuberculosis testing, along with a desktop computer, laptop, and printer to support electronic medical recordkeeping in local health centers.
Located two hours from Puerto Princesa City, Roxas faces challenges in accessing advanced healthcare. Dr. Parreño, the Municipal Health Officer, described the donation as a “game-changer” for the municipality. “With the Gene Xpert, tests can be processed immediately, reports submitted digitally, and the usual two-week waiting time reduced to just one day,” she said. She also credited the Church’s support and prayers for making the project possible.

Bishop Bontoyan emphasized the Church’s broader mission of service. “We want people to know that the Church cares not only for its members but also for those outside our faith. One of our goals is to reach out and help more people and organizations,” he said.
Reflecting on the spiritual significance of the event, Sister Gardner shared, “God’s two great commandments are to love Him and to love our neighbors. Christ is our example—He went about doing good and helping others. That’s what we’re doing: following His example.”
More than a donation, the event symbolized faith, unity, and shared purpose—a testament to the Church’s commitment to both the physical and spiritual well-being of the community. Together, the Church and the municipality of Roxas reaffirmed their dedication to building healthier communities and brighter futures.
