In a compassionate effort to address the urgent needs of Persons Deprived of Liberty (PDLs), The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints donated 5,000 hygiene kits and slippers to New Bilibid Prison (NBP) in Muntinlupa. The facility, originally built to house 6,345 inmates, currently holds over 24,000—nearly four times its intended capacity.
The donation, which aims to alleviate the lack of basic necessities among the PDLs, includes slippers, laundry bar soap, travel toothbrush and toothpaste kits, bath soap, cotton hand towels, and shampoo.
The turnover ceremony was attended by key officials from the Bureau of Corrections and representatives of the Church. Among those present were COI Pamela Aplaca, Chief of MSS; CO3 Glenn Maglantay, Chief Administrator of NBP-Minimum Security Camp; CSO2 Ronald Villanueva, Reformation Coordinator; PDL PTR Tedd Talapiero; and President Nomar Nivera of Las Piñas Philippines Stake (diocese).
President Nivera delivered a heartfelt message on behalf of the Church, drawing inspiration from biblical teachings. Quoting Mark 12:41–44, he emphasized the importance of recognizing and responding to the needs of others. “Our relationship with Jesus Christ should motivate, move, and empower us to serve without selfish ambition,” he said. He also cited Matthew 25:40, reminding attendees that acts of kindness toward the least among us are acts of love toward Christ Himself.
“This initiative is more than a donation—it’s a reflection of our faith and a call to live with compassion,” President Nivera added.
The ceremony highlighted the Church’s ongoing commitment to humanitarian service and its belief in the transformative power of love, unity, and faith-driven action.
