A Simple Act of Service for the Prophet: A Record-breaking Birthday Card

Downloadable B-roll and SOTs

On June 1, 2024 — 100 days before he turns 100 — President Russell M. Nelson asked that people mark his 100th birthday (September 9, 2024) by reaching out in love and service to someone in need.

At the Utah Area’s 2024 conference for young single adults in Salt Lake City on Saturday, August 3, 2024, tens of thousands of Latter-day Saints did just that — for him. A total of 31,384 people (now a Guinness World Record) shared messages of love on a massive birthday card for the former heart surgeon who has ministered as an Apostle for more than 40 years. Including additional birthday wishes shared online, some 86,500 people have participated. The card, along with the logbook of contributions, can now be viewed in the lobby of the Conference Center.

“It is awesome that 31,000 people wished President Nelson a happy 100th birthday,” said Elder Kevin W. Pearson, the Utah Area President. “What would be even more awesome is if now we would all consider giving him the birthday present that he’s asked for. What he wants is for each one of us to reach out to someone in love and compassion and help and support — reach out to the one.”
