All Missionaries Safe; Members Find Refuge in Meetinghouses as Cyclones Sweep Across the Philippines

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints continues to monitor the impact of widespread flooding and heavy rainfall in the Philippines.

According to the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC), more than 500,000 families or nearly two million individuals have been affected by the southwest monsoon and the recent tropical cyclones Crising, Emong, and Dante. The most severely affected areas include Central Luzon, the Ilocos Region, and Western Visayas.

In response to the situation, the Church confirmed that all missionaries, both Filipino and foreign, serving in the Philippines are safe and accounted for.

Church meetinghouses, which are often opened as temporary shelters during emergencies, have welcomed almost 400 individuals seeking refuge from flooded neighborhoods. However, four Church facilities in Bulacan and Pangasinan sustained damage due to heavy rain, strong winds, and rising floodwaters.

The Church, through its humanitarian services, is preparing to donate more than PHP 2.2 million in emergency aid to those most seriously affected. Local wards and branches have also mobilized leaders and ministering brothers and sisters to identify and assist members in need.

To support this effort, many bishops and branch presidents use the Bishop Ordering System, an online platform that allows them to request food and relief items for members under their care. This system helps ensure timely and organized distribution of Church-provided resources during emergencies.

Latter-day Saints who require support are encouraged to contact their local bishop or branch president.

For many years, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has provided humanitarian assistance around the world during times of natural disasters, civil unrest, and other crises. This support includes immediate relief such as food, water, clothing, and medical supplies, as well as long term recovery and rebuilding efforts.
