Sister Amy Wright, 1st Counselor of the Primary General Presidency, and Sister Rebecca Craven, 2nd Counselor of the Young Women General Presidency of the Church, invited missionaries to consistently focus on the Savior in a special devotional held in the Missionary Training Center (MTC) on Tuesday, August 23.
Sister Wright highlighted the need to acknowledge the power of the scriptures to give us comfort and guidance. She shared Jeremiah:16 and tagged missionaries as "hunters," which would require a lot of hard work and patience. "Your mission is tailor-made, uniquely hard for you," she added.
Even knowing that challenges are down the road, Sister Wright promised, "When righteous men and women come together, united in the cause of Christ, there is no mountain we can't move."
Sister Craven shared the principle of squares. She taught that squares are an essential part of the gospel. For example, raising the hands in a square means making and keeping covenants. Such gestures are seen during the ordinance of baptism, where the baptizer raises the right hand in a square. She said that Heavenly Father wants missionaries to be square. "To be square means, to be honest, direct, true, and strict," she emphasized.
Brother James Wright and Brother Ronald Craven clearly and powerfully expounded the doctrine and gospel of Jesus Christ.
Brother Wright relayed how young David lived the first great commandment and showed his faith in the Lord despite facing Goliath, a formidable opponent. He encouraged missionaries to "put the Lord first." He likened David's five stones to actionable items to counter the adversary: prayer, scripture study, temple worship, following the prophet, and serving others.
Brother Craven testified that there is no other way for God's children to receive the Atonement's full blessings only by accepting the gospel.
Before the devotional, Sister Wright and Sister Craven and their husbands enjoyed a short tour of the MTC. They love the missionaries and the strong presence of the Holy Ghost in the hallowed building.
Elder Yoon Hwan Choi, 1st Counselor in the Philippines Area Presidency, concluded the devotional by bearing a short and profound testimony of the reality of Heavenly Father, Jesus Christ, and the truth of the Book of Mormon.
