Sister Susan H. Porter, the Primary General President of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, attended a Member Devotional at the Malolos Philippines Stake (Diocese) on Saturday, November 11, 2023 together with her sister, Sister Jeanette Harris, and First Counselor to the Philippines Area Presidency, Elder Yoon Hwan Choi and wife, Sister Bon Kyung Koo Choi.
A total of 368 Saints from Malolos stake and 227 Saints from Baliwag stake were present at the Malolos Stake Center while church members from different stakes within Quezon City North Mission watched from their respective homes via live broadcast.
During the devotional, Sister Porter asked enthusiastic Primary children and Youth about their personal ways and how they come unto Christ. Some of the answers vary from “forgiving everyone” and “Jesus heals me when I’m sick”, to “composing songs”, “learning to accept my mistakes”, and “partaking of the Sacrament”. She gave an assurance that “we don’t need to be perfect to come unto Christ, we need to be willing to do the things He wants us to do.”
This inspired discussion was followed by Elder and Sister Choi’s demonstration of the power of being yoked to the Savior. Sister Choi demonstrated this lesson by tying herself to Elder Choi, teaching that both can help each other in staying on the covenant path. They taught that making and keeping sacred covenants would give us more power to defeat the adversary as it binds us to and yokes us with Christ.
Sister Maritess Bunda from Baliwag Stake was deeply moved when Sister Porter shared the pulpit with her sister. She expressed, “I also like the part where Sister Porter was engaging her younger sister Jeanette Harris in the devotional. They show[ed] how they love each other as sisters. I kind of wish that someday my kids will be like them, very close and very loving towards each other. All in all, the devotional was very moving, and I really felt the spirit.”
Brother Ronaldo Balde from Malolos Stake declared his discernment that our intimate relationship with our Heavenly Father should not be complicated. “Sometimes, the answer to life’s questions can be answered by the young ones… Pleasing our Heavenly Father is simple. It is us who are making it hard because of our sins and our unwillingness to live a clean life,” he said.
Adi, a loving five-year-old child from Malolos Stake, expressed his happiness after seeing Sister Porter. He excitedly declared, “I'm happy to see her. I learned from the song that she shared (I'll walk with Jesus) that Jesus Christ is good and kind.”
