Sister Jean B. Bingham, 17th General Relief Society President of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, spent the whole afternoon of 7 February 2020 visiting local families in Cebu City. Her visit focused on encouraging members to follow the counsel of President Russell M. Nelson to continually walk on the covenant path.

Despite the distance and traffic, she managed to greet the families with a big smile and warm heart. The roads were still wet due to heavy rain from the previous day, but Sister Bingham did her ministering with joy and excitement. With determination, the general officer of the Church descended the muddy slope going to the homes just so she could extend her love to the Patalinghug, Marinay and Villegas families.
In her ministering visits, she emphasized the importance of regular family scripture study, family prayer, and the study of the Come, Follow Me manual. She also sang primary songs together with the children.
“I am so overjoyed for Sister Bingham’s visit to our home because I feel the spirit. I know that her visit will help us unify and strengthen our family," said Henry Patalinghug.
In another visit, Sister Bingham was thrilled to learn of the Marinay Family's plan to be sealed in the temple in August 2020. As new converts of the Church, Brother Marinay said, “When I found the gospel, my whole being was changed. I am happier now.”
In the Villegas' home, the children shared with a glee their talents in singing and sang the primary song I Am A Child Of God. Talking about their experience in doing the Come, Follow Me, Queenie Villlegas shared, “I am grateful for this program because it helps me to get to know my children more.”
Accompanying Sister Bingham was her husband, Bruce Bingham; Elder Evan A. Schmutz, Philippines Area President, and his wife Sister Cindy L. Schmutz. They all exhorted the families to continue their practice of reading the scriptures everyday.
Unity in the Family
Following the ministering visits, Brother and Sister Bingham held a member devotional, wherein both spoke about strengthening the family.
In her message, the general Church officer that a family can give eternal happiness to everyone. She also encouraged the members to keep an eternal perspective in mind and not just an earthly one. Lastly, the Relief Society General President reminded the audience that each one has a royal potential. Meanwhile, Brother Bingham emphasized the importance of unity in marriage.
Sister Bingham was in the country together with Brother Bingham to learn more abou the successful pilot nutrition program of the Catarman Philippines Stake. Similar to her visit in the Queen City of the South, the Binghams' visited families in Catarman and learned about how the nutrition program blessed their families.
Brother and Sister Bingham traveled to Toleday City, Cebu on Saturday, 8 February to witness the malnutrition screening.
