The Philippines Missionary Training Center (MTC) welcomed its first batch of missionaries for on-site training on Thursday, July 22, 2021. The MTC had temporarily closed at the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic in March of last year. After almost 16 months of conducting missionary training online, the MTC's reopening marks the beginning of a new phased approach of combined virtual and in-person instruction.
As leaders and staff of the MTC ushered in 69 new elders and sisters, the tender moment of goodbyes became a sight to behold. In a scene that had not been witnessed for more than a year, families and friends were once again able to send their loved ones to the missionary training center with emotion-filled farewells.

This batch of missionaries will be supplementing their initial week of online training with two weeks of on-site classes, devotionals, meetings, and other traditional MTC-hosted activities.
Observance of Health and Safety Guidelines in the MTC
Following the Inter-Agency Task Force (IATF) guidelines, all reporting missionaries were administered swab tests before being admitted into the Philippines MTC. To further minimize the risk of spreading the COVID-19 virus, both missionaries and teachers will stay within the MTC's facility for the remaining two weeks of missionary training.
While currently at 30-50% operating capacity, the Philippines MTC caters on-site training only to Filipino missionaries assigned to serve within the country. With present travel restrictions, however, some missionaries will continue receiving their missionary training online.
