Latter-day Saint Charities (LDSC), the humanitarian arm of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, received a plaque of appreciation from the Philippine Marine Corps (PMC) last March 3, 2021. The award was given in honor of the longstanding partnership between LDSC and the PMC, and to express appreciation for the Church's recent donations in its COVID-19 relief efforts.
Elder Jairus Perez, Country Director for LDSC met with Brigadier General Rodylyn Manzano and Major General Ariel Caculitan, Commandant of the PMC to receive the plaque on behalf of the Church. The awarding was held at the Brown Hall in the PMC Fort Bonifacio Headquarters.
The Church donated PHP 5,000,000 worth of donations in kind to the PMC for the year 2020. These donations included the sponsorship of facilities decontamination, 4,000 hygiene kits for Marine battalions, alcohol, and personal protective equipment including face masks, face shields, latex gloves.
The partnership between LDSC and the PMC started with a livelihood program with one of the Corps’ units stationed in Sulu. Since then, the partnership has grown in scope and coverage, notably during the ongoing pandemic with the Church’s donations of personal protective equipment. Also in attendance at the event were Col. Cervo from PMC and Elder and Sister Orencia from the wheelchair initiative of the Welfare Department of the Church.
