Nearly 90 Learners Receive Prescriptive Glasses Through Better Vision for Better Education Program in Davao City

Nearly 90 learners from Doña Pilar L. Marfori Elementary School in the Davao Central District received prescriptive eyeglasses during the turnover ceremony of the Better Vision for Better Education Program on March 26, 2026, bringing clearer sight and renewed confidence to students as they continue their learning journey.

The initiative made possible through a collaboration between The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, ProSight Optical, and GMA Super Radyo Davao, also included the donation of vision screening tools such as cloth Snellen charts, plastic black eye occluders, and LEA Symbol charts to support the school’s continuing efforts to monitor and promote students’ eye health.

Supporting Learners Through Clearer Vision

The Better Vision for Better Education Program aims to help learners overcome vision challenges that may affect classroom participation and academic performance. By providing access to proper eye screening and corrective glasses, the initiative helps ensure that students are better equipped to succeed in school and in life.

During the ceremony, Rizaldito Castro, President of the Davao Philippines Stake, shared an uplifting message with students, teachers, and parents.

“Our Heavenly Father loves each of His children,” he said. “When we work together to help improve the lives of one another, we will be blessed individually, as families, and as a community.”

President Castro also invited the school community and their families to visit the nearby Davao Philippines Temple during its public open house, encouraging them to take the opportunity to learn more about the temple and its purpose in strengthening individuals and families.

Serving Through the Example of Jesus Christ

Abenir Pajaro, Area Manager of the Welfare and Self-Reliance Department of the Church, emphasized that the program reflects the Savior’s teachings to care for others, especially children.

“As members of His Church, we strive to follow the teachings of Jesus Christ, which is to serve one another,” Pajaro said. “We are blessed to share His blessings with you.”

He added that helping learners improve their eyesight supports not only their present studies but also their future potential.

“Jesus Christ is always calling upon us to bring the children unto Him,” he said. “Through programs like this, we can help learners have better vision; and therefore, become better learners who will succeed in school and become future leaders in their communities and in the nation.”

Strengthening Education and Well-Being

School Principal Ms. Eloisa Questo expressed heartfelt appreciation for the support extended to the school community.

“This program will enhance the academic performance and overall well-being of our children,” she said.

Dr. Rachel Lacurom, Medical Officer of the Department of Education, also recognized the lasting impact of the initiative.

“With better vision, there will be better learners, and they will have better opportunities,” she shared.

A Collaborative Effort for Children’s Futures

Also present during the activity were Anthony John Balledos, Country Director of the Church’s Humanitarian Services; Jude Solidarios and Loehl Gementiza from the Area Welfare and Self-Reliance team; and Dr. Lynnel Caigas, optometrist, who delivered an eye health awareness lecture for parents and learners to help strengthen understanding of proper vision care.

Through partnerships like the Better Vision for Better Education Program, the Church and its collaborators continue to support learners, families, and schools, helping create opportunities where children can see clearly, learn confidently, and prepare for brighter futures ahead.

Community Invited to Visit the Davao Temple Open House

As part of the Church’s continuing efforts to strengthen families and communities in Mindanao, the public is warmly invited to attend the Davao Philippines Temple Open House, which runs until April 10, 2026. During this special period, individuals and families of all faiths are welcome to walk through the temple, learn about its sacred purpose, and experience the peace it represents before its formal dedication. Community members are encouraged to take this rare opportunity to visit the temple and better understand its role as a house of the Lord and a place where families are strengthened through faith in Jesus Christ.
