LDS Charities, the humanitarian arm of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, in partnership with Radio GMA DXGM Super Radyo, staged another medical mission entitled "Maagang Pamasko Super Radyo Super Serbisyo Publiko 2017" on 9 December 2017 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints Chapel in Sasa, Davao City.
This is the 5th medical mission organized by RGMA Super Radyo and LDS Charities. According to Rodel Natad, RGMA Reporter and Project Coordinator, the next mission is tentatively set for June 2018.
A total of 2,530 individuals received the following services: medical checkup with free medication, dental checkup and tooth extraction with free medication, eye checkup with free reading glasses, minor surgery screening, cataract screening, cyst screening and a dengue rapid diagnostic test. There was also free distribution of organic larvicide and a lecture on making organic insect repellent.
More than 60 Mormon Helping Hands volunteers provided assistance during the activity.
Other partners include the Department of Health XI, Davao City Health Office, Davao Medical Society, Southern Philippines Medical Center-Department of Emergency Medicine, Philippine Pharmacist Association Davao Chapter, Prosight Optical Inc., University of Mindanao-College of Health Sciences Education, Coast Guard District South Eastern Mindanao, Regional Health Services-Police Regional Office, Mabuhay Deseret Foundation, Maharlika Charity Foundation, 10th Infantry "Agila" Division, Don Antonio Floirendo Sr. Foundation, Naval Forces Eastern Mindanao, CV Eye Center and the Mindanao Medical Foundation College of Optometry.
Art Lerma, from the Davao Phillipines Buhangin Stake (diocese) of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, explained in an interview, that along with the medical mission, the other ongoing projects of LDS Charities and RGMA include Better Vision and Tepok Lamok (Anti Dengue Campaign).
