Turning their hearts towards those in need, the Welfare and Self-Reliance (WSR) group of the Malolos Philippines Stake organized a medical screening on May 11, 2023, at the stake center of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. With the aim of providing relief to the community, this initiative brought together volunteers, partner organizations, and individuals seeking medical assistance.
A total of 361 Bulakenyos were able to avail of free diagnostic services for conditions and diseases such as cleft lip and cleft palate, clubfoot, amputated limbs, eye, and vision problems. The array of services provided during the medical screening aimed to bring relief and improve the quality of life for those in need.

The Malolos Stake's WSR Specialist, Sister April Adao, explained the motivation behind organizing the event, saying, "We were inspired to organize it [the medical screening] because offering humanitarian services has always been a part of the WSR program of The Church of Jesus Christ intended to aid the community and provide relief to those who are in need." This deep sense of purpose and the recognition of their responsibility to serve their fellow beings formed the foundation of this initiative.
To bring this undertaking to fruition, the Malolos Stake WSR group collaborated with esteemed organizations such as the Mabuhay Deseret Foundation (MDF), Resources for the Blind, Inc., The Alibata Project, Malolos City Vice Mayor's Office, and the Malolos City Health Office (CHO). Together, these organizations pooled their resources and expertise to create an impactful event.
The collaboration yielded a total of 60 volunteers, including individuals from the Alibata Project, MDF, CHO, and Malolos Stake's WSR group. Alongside these dedicated volunteers, the event was graced by the presence of notable individuals, including the Vice Mayor of the City of Malolos, Hon. Miguel Alberto T. Bautista; Kim Morrison, President of the Mabuhay Deseret Foundation; and Dr. Joshua Toledo, co-founder of The Alibata Project. Their attendance demonstrated their shared commitment to uplifting the community and serving those in need.
Expressing his gratitude, President Domingo B. Obnias, First Counselor of the Malolos Stake Presidency, shared his message. "My appreciation goes to our partner organizations and all volunteers. Thank you for your great desire to help us. Without your support, our medical mission won't be successful." President Obnias's words underscored the significance of collective efforts and the vital role each participant played in the success of the event.
Among the volunteers, Sister Adao encountered a touching conversation that exemplified the profound impact of selfless service. She shared the story of a woman who found herself moved to tears by the overwhelming joy she experienced during the activity. Sister Adao recalled the woman's words, "I did not know that I could be deserving of feeling such happiness.”
As the Malolos Philippines Stake WSR group, partner organizations, and volunteers continue their efforts to uplift the community, their dedication serves as an inspiration to others. The medical screening serves as a reminder of the profound words found in Mosiah 2:17 of the Book of Mormon: "When ye are in the service of your fellow beings, ye are only in the service of your God." Through their unwavering commitment to the well-being of their neighbors, these individuals exemplify the embodiment of this divine principle.
