LDSC Donates PPE and School Supplies to a High School in Bulacan

The humanitarian arm of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Latter-day Saint Charities (LDSC), donated Covid-19 Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and school supplies to the Jaime J. Vistan High School (JJVHS) in Plaridel, Bulacan. The turnover ceremony was held last March 30, 2022, at the Plaridel Chapel in Baranggay Poblacion.

Mr. Fredrik Del Rosario, the school’s principal, mentioned that they were discussing the project with the humanitarian missionaries since 2019. “This is a project two years in the making. Our original plan was the repair of the comfort rooms, but because of the pandemic, we had to take a step back,” he said.

This did not hinder the missionaries to reach out to the members of the academe to push through with the project. “Our current situation endorsed different needs, therefore, we thought of requesting learning materials for our learners and readily available COVID-19 supplies for hybrid classes,” Mr. Del Rosario said.

They learned about LDSC through Parent-Teachers Association (PTA) President, Mrs. Maria Liza Buenavista. Sister Buenavista mentioned LDSC in one of their PTA meetings a few years ago to support the achievement of quality education for the growing number of students.

“We look forward to a dynamic relationship with the local government, DepEd Bulacan, and LDSC to reach all aspirations for the younger generation,” Sister Buenavista mentioned.

Mayor Anastacia "Tessie" Vistan of Plaridel, Bulacan said, “We are extremely thankful [to LDSC] for their help and for upholding the importance of education,” she said.

Senior Education Program Specialist of the Department of Education (DepEd) Bulacan, Mr. Bryan Amiel De Jesus, also expressed his thanks for the support given by the organization.

“Thank you for sustaining and supporting our learners’ education. The hope that we are trying to introduce would help them sustain their families’ needs and help them reach their full potential,” Mr. De Jesus said.

When asked about the impact of the donation on the student body, a Senior High School student, Cedric Guleban said in an interview, “We thank them [LDSC]. Because of their donations, we would have a more comfortable study environment. We would cherish the donations by taking care of the PPE and supplies and by being kind to other people.”

LDSC is the humanitarian arm of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. It follows the admonition of Jesus Christ to feed the hungry, give drink to the thirsty, take in the stranger, clothe the naked, and visit the sick and afflicted.

One of the couples serving as senior missionaries for LDSC, Elder and Sister Hill, mentioned, “The purpose of [LDSC] is to relieve suffering, foster self-reliance, and provide opportunities to serve for people of all nationalities and all religions. We focus on anyone and everyone because we are all God’s children.”
