Latter-day Saint Charities (LDSC), the humanitarian arm of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has donated a zipline and refurbished rappel tower to the National Capital Region Regional Community Defense Group (NCRRCDG) and the Philippine Army Reserve Command (RESCOM) in a formal turnover ceremony at Fort Andres Bonifacio, Metro Manila on April 7, 2022.
Representing the Philippine Army Reserve Command was Major General Fernando V. Felipe. He said,
“With the establishment of the tower and subsequent zipline, we will be better able to train our reserve command, and troops to defend our country from any insurgency and calamity. [Indeed] the zipline will help in the confidence and capability-building among our men.”
He emphasized that these will help about 20,000 individuals in the reserve command. He said that the improved facility will also be open for tours and for youth and young adults who would request lectures on basic first aid and disaster response.
The newly improved circuit for training will start with rappelling of the tower, then a zip line through the landing area, to a dip at the survival pool, which then leads to the obstacle course starting at the entrance of the premises. The course culminates in a marksmanship segment at a firing range on the other side of the camp.
“We hope to share this apparatus not only to our reserviced officers but also to our Reserve Officers’ Training Corps (ROTC) cadets who are training in over 31 schools in Metro Manila”, he shared.
Latter-day Saint Charities Country Director, Jairus Perez said, “The purpose of Latter-day Saint Charities is to relieve suffering, build self-reliance and promote service among our fellowmen.”
He emphasized that love for God and others is shown through acts of service. With a common goal to help Filipinos, he said, “On behalf of the Church, we are grateful for this opportunity to help. Side by side, we would want to link arms with you in more opportunities like this.”
About LDS Charities
Sponsored by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, LDS Charities is an application of the admonition of Jesus Christ to help others in need. Jesus Christ taught His followers to give meat to the hungry and drink to those who thirst. His is a gospel that includes taking in the stranger, loving neighbors as self, and visiting those who are sick or imprisoned. He taught that we are to love and care for each other, visit the fatherless and widows in their afflictions, and lift up those whose hands hang down and whose knees are feeble.
