The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints provided relief assistance to residents of Balut Island in the municipality of Sarangani, Davao Occidental on July 22, 2026, following a series of earthquakes which struck southern Mindanao beginning June 8.
Through the combined efforts of the Church’s Humanitarian Services department and Architect Sherillah Porza-Sawah, regional director of the National Commission on Muslim Filipinos (NCMF), food packs and hygiene kits were distributed to 500 families from Barangay Batuganding.
Members of the communications councils from the Church’s General Santos Philippines Stake and Digos Philippines Stake helped deliver the humanitarian assistance and traveled 11-12 hours to reach Balut Island, which is located off the coast of mainland Mindanao and adjacent to the Sarangani Strait.
Following the commandment of Jesus Christ to serve others, members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints provide humanitarian aid yearly to thousands of people throughout the Philippines either directly or in collaboration with other organizations.
