Tagum City, Davao del Norte, February 17, 2024 — In a heartwarming display of compassion and unity, over 100 volunteers gathered today to pack 4,000 relief packages for the victims of the recent devastating landslide in Elizalde, Masara, Maco, Davao de Oro. The initiative, led by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, Tagum Philippines Stake, under the guidance of Stake President Edwin A. Espiritu and his counselors, showcased an unprecedented interfaith effort to provide aid and comfort to those in need.
The day's activities began in the morning at the local chapel of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and continued in the afternoon at the Clergy House, QACS Seminary, in Tagum City. Volunteers included missionaries and members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, as well as members and pastors from various religious denominations, highlighting the event's inclusive and collaborative spirit.
Among the interfaith groups present were representatives from the Roman Catholic Church, the United Methodist Church, the United Church of Christ in the Philippines (UCCP), and the Jesus Christ The Chief Shepherd Ministry-IBCP. This diverse gathering of faiths underscored the universal call to aid those distressed, transcending religious boundaries to come together for a common cause.
The relief goods packing and distribution were co-facilitated by TV5 Alagang Kapatid Foundation, with notable TV personalities Ronnie M. Aguilar and Lhorlyn G. Estrada leading the charge as the event's organizer-convenors. Their presence and active involvement added a layer of visibility to the efforts, drawing attention to the importance of community support in times of disaster.
