DepEd CDO Gives Recognition to Church for Humanitarian Efforts

The Department of Education Cagayan de Oro City Division gave recognition to various organizations for being esteemed partners in different programs and projects during the Stakeholders Summit 2018, and The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints was one of the recipients.

President Roy A. Cotejo, a member of the Cagayan de Oro Stake (Diocese) Presidency, received the Plaque of Recognition on behalf of Stake President Edwin Sacay.

The award given was in recognition of the Church’s remarkable efforts and selfless support and commitment in accomplishing various projects with the Department of Education as a partner in order to improve the total academic performance of students.

For many years now, the Helping Hands program and the Latter-day Saints Charities, the humanitarian arm of the Church of Jesus Christ, have been active participants in the annual Brigada Eskwela and other projects.

These projects include donations of school kits to Children in resettlement areas after Typhoon Sendong, distribution of bags and school supplies for displaced learners from Marawi City, and the donation of instructional materials for 200 teachers.

Apart from spiritual education, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints continues to place importance on secular education. Commitment to lifelong education is not just a principle but a practice, which explains why many Latter-day Saints strive to obtain degrees and diplomas and to learn as much as they can for their spiritual, physical, emotional, mental and economic benefit.

For many members of the Church, knowledge is empowering. Hence, the Church through its humanitarian arm continues to partner with education-based organizations to help students, particularly underprivileged learners, in their academic pursuits.
