In a formal act of civic recognition, the Sangguniang Panlungsod of Davao City passed a resolution congratulating The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on the completion of the Davao Philippines Temple. Resolution No. 0790-26, Series of 2026, was adopted on March 24, 2026, by a unanimous vote of all members of the city council present, with Vice Mayor Rodrigo S. Duterte II presiding.
The resolution was officially transmitted on April 20, 2026, to Elder Carlos G. Revillo, Jr., President of the Philippines Area of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
A Formal Civic Recognition
The resolution was presented on motion of Councilor and Majority Floor Leader Bai Hundra Cassandra Dominique N. Advincula and seconded by the full body of the 21st City Council during its 12th Regular Session. The council cited several grounds for the recognition, noting that the completion of the Davao Philippines Temple, located in Ma-a, Davao City, marks a significant milestone for members of the Church in Mindanao and throughout southern Philippines.
The resolution described temples of the Church as sacred houses of worship where members participate in religious ordinances, make sacred covenants with God, and strengthen their commitment to follow the teachings and example of Jesus Christ.
The council further noted that the establishment of the temple reflects the Church's continuing commitment to religious freedom, moral values, family unity, and community development within Davao City and the broader Mindanao region.
Community and Humanitarian Contributions Cited
In passing the resolution, the Davao City Council formally acknowledged the Church's long record of service in the Philippines and in Davao City specifically. The resolution cited the Church's initiatives providing food assistance, educational support, clean water projects, disaster response, and other humanitarian efforts that uplift the lives of many Filipinos regardless of faith or background.
The council also noted the temple's expected positive social and economic impact, including increased local activity, strengthened civic engagement, and continued humanitarian and charitable efforts benefiting families and communities throughout the region.
A Symbol of Faith and Service
The resolution concluded by describing the construction and completion of the Davao Philippines Temple as a symbol of faith, hope, peace, and the enduring importance of strong families, integrity, compassion, and service to others.
The Davao Philippines Temple will be dedicated on May 3, 2026, by Elder Dale G. Renlund of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles. It is among the historic cluster of three Philippine temples dedicated in 2026, alongside the Alabang Philippines Temple dedicated in January and the Bacolod Philippines Temple dedication on May 31, 2026.
The official copy of the resolution was transmitted through Acting City Government Department Head II Ma. Theresa A. Reyes, Acting Secretary to the Sangguniang Panlungsod, to the Philippines Area Office of the Church.
