In a continued effort to support education in remote communities, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints donated 1,082 classroom chairs and 55 televisions to the Department of Education (DepEd) Mayoyao District during a turnover ceremony held on March 16, 2026.
The donation, facilitated through the Municipal Government of Mayoyao, aims to enhance classroom environments and provide additional tools to support both teachers and learners across public schools in the district.
Education leaders, local government officials and Church representatives gathered for the ceremony, reflecting a shared commitment to improving access to quality education in the municipality.
Strengthening Classrooms and Learning Opportunities
Public Schools District Supervisor Isabel M. Chug-e expressed appreciation for the support extended to schools in Mayoyao, noting that the additional chairs and televisions will help create more conducive learning environments and support interactive teaching methods.
The project was first discussed during a Local School Board meeting in August 2025, with participation from school heads and local stakeholders. During this time, representatives from the Church’s humanitarian services, including missionary couple Elder Plummer and Sister Plummer, met with educators to better understand the needs of the district.
Through these consultations, the need for additional classroom seating and learning equipment was identified—particularly in a geographically challenging area where access to resources can be limited.
A Response to Real Needs
During the turnover, Elder Manrico Marcaida emphasized that the donation represents more than physical assistance.
“These chairs and televisions are not just equipment,” he said. “They are tools for learning and instruments that can help improve teaching and learning in your classrooms—especially in this beautiful but geographically challenged municipality of Mayoyao.”
He also clarified that the project was guided by identified needs within the community.
“Mayoyao was chosen because of real needs—the needs of teachers striving to deliver quality education, and the needs of learners who deserve equal access to modern learning tools despite their location,” he added.
The initiative was coordinated with the support of Linda H. Marcaida, a former Municipal Local Government Operations Officer assigned to Mayoyao and a member of the Church, who helped connect local stakeholders and humanitarian partners.
Investing in the Future Through Education
Also present during the ceremony was Elder Willy Estrada, Welfare and Self-Reliance Manager, who highlighted the importance of understanding the purpose behind acts of service.
He noted that meaningful assistance goes beyond material support, helping communities recognize the intent to uplift lives and strengthen long-term outcomes.
Municipal Vice Mayor Rudy N. Chilagan, representing Mayor Jimmy B. Padchanan Jr., expressed gratitude on behalf of the local government, recognizing the donation as a valuable contribution to improving the quality of education in Mayoyao.
Building Stronger Communities Through Service
Collaboration between the Church, local government, and the education sector underscores the impact of collaborative efforts in addressing community needs.
For members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, supporting education is one way to follow the example of Jesus Christ—by caring for others and helping build stronger families and communities.
Through initiatives such as this, students in Mayoyao are given greater opportunities to learn, grow and prepare for the future—regardless of geographic challenges.
