Church shows support for quality education in Calinog, Iloilo; donates learning equipment to four schools

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints turned over essential learning equipment to four schools in the town of Calinog in the Iloilo province last September 19, 2023, continuing its commitment to supporting education efforts in the Philippines.

Four schools in the Municipality of Calinog – Badlan National High School, Fernandez Perez Memorial National High School and the San Juan Elementary School – received 36 units of 50-inch Smart TVs, three printers, three projectors and three stand fans to upgrade the way lessons are taught to thousands of learners in the schools.

Department of Education Supervisor Nancy Tomulto thanked the Church for its support and reminded students in attendance to value their education. She also recognized the hard work and dedication of teachers and in their pivotal role in the lives of their students.

“Teachers, take care of [the new educational equipment] because it can facilitate learning. Learners, be diligent in studying and praying so we can have what need,” she said.

Elder and Sister Tiechert, humanitarian missionaries of the Church joined local leaders of the Church in handing over the donated educational equipment. They also urged the students to “learn to learn” and hoped that the new equipment would make an impact on their studies.

“Our loving Heavenly Father blessed all of us with different talents. Learn the gifts you have and develop them. These things you received now will give comfort and more learning, the Tiecherts said.

The 36 new Smart TVs are expected to give more access to multimedia content that will make learning more engaging and interactive for the students. With access to educational videos, online resources, and digital textbooks, students will have the opportunity to expand their horizons and explore subjects with greater depth.

On the other hand, the printers will help the teachers streamline some of their administrative tasks and in the production of essential educational materials including worksheets, examination papers and other needed documents.

School officials and local authorities in Calinog, Iloilo, are hopeful that this donation will not only elevate the quality of education in their town but also inspire other groups to contribute to the improvement of their community services.

The Church’s humanitarian efforts in the Philippines are backed by the commitment of its leaders and members to follow the teachings and example of the Savior Jesus Christ in caring for those who are in need.
