Church Recognized by DepEd for Its Impact on Education

The Department of Education (DepEd) Schools Division of Davao City recently recognized The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints for its exceptional partnership and contributions to educational initiatives during the Stakeholder’s Forum and Appreciation Day held last December 23, 2024, in Davao City.

Fernando Pareja, First Counselor in the Davao Philippines Stake (diocese), and his wife, Donna Pareja, Church Communication Representative, accepted the Plaque of Appreciation on behalf of the Church. The plaque acknowledged the Church for its “genuine act of volunteerism which transforms the lives of learners through the Adopt-A-School Program, leading to the advancement of notable educational endeavors.”

In his remarks, Schools Division Superintendent Reynante Solitario expressed gratitude for the partnership, stating, “Today, we honor you for the strong partnership that we have established, turning obstacles into opportunities and challenges into catalysts for growth.”

He further emphasized, “To our partners, your contributions have been nothing short of transformative. You have infused our initiatives with resources, ideas, and passion—each of which is critical in pushing the boundaries of what we can achieve. Your impact resonates through every action we take. For all this, we offer our deepest gratitude. As we move forward, let us remember that our work is not only about the goals we aim to achieve but about the lives we touch and the legacy we build.”

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has been committed to supporting quality education in the Philippines. Recently, the Church supported the infrastructure at Maa Central Elementary School by upgrading electrical and plumbing systems and donating computer sets, workstation tables and chairs, industrial fans, and monobloc chairs.

At Maa National High School, the Church also provided Smart TVs, tables, and chairs to improve the learning environment for students and teachers, aiming to boost academic performance and student engagement.

Beyond education, the Church actively collaborates with government agencies, religious organizations, and non-profits to address various community needs. Its unwavering commitment to humanitarian outreach and service continues to foster stronger, more resilient communities.

In 2024, the Church’s humanitarian arm supported nearly 400 projects worth over PHP 601 million, benefiting over 30 million Filipinos. These initiatives included food assistance, education support, health care, clean water access, emergency response, and more.
