The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints donated necessary medical equipment and supplies to the Gasan Rural Health Unit (RHU), continuing its commitment to support local health community efforts, especially for the poor.
The Latter-Day Saints Charities, the humanitarian arm of the Church, turned over to the Gasan RHU an ECG machine, an automated defibrillator, a real-time fetal heart rate monitor, a tocodynamometer, a color ultrasound machine, a blood pressure apparatus with a stethoscope, and a pulse oximeter.

Elder Brendan Hayne and his wife, Sister Patricia Hayne, senior service missionaries tasked to oversee the donation turnover event, said that one of the foundational beliefs of members of the Church is to care for the poor and needy.
“Humanitarian efforts are designed to give individual communities the tools they need to improve their circumstances permanently and in a meaningful way. We intend to be part of and help the community,” they said.
The Gasan RHU also received much-needed office furniture and equipment, including a couch, table, and accompanying chairs; and a desktop computer set with accessories.
Gasan Municipal Mayor Rolando Tolentino expressed his gratitude for the medical equipment and supplies, emphasizing the crucial role of the RHU in providing medical assistance to the citizens of Gasan and its neighboring towns.
“We thank the members of this organization who stand not only as a religion but as a charitable institution as well. Charitable organizations like this immensely help to administer health assistance to the needs of the people of our town,” Tolentino said.
Dr. Abigail Villaruel, Acting Municipal Health Officer and Gasan RHU Representative, also extended her gratitude to the Church and LDS Charities and said that “there are still good people in the world” and that acts of service will make enduring impressions in their community.
The event was highlighted by the signing of a Memorandum of Agreement between the Church and Gasan RHU, solidifying their partnership in improving healthcare services in the area.
