Church of Jesus Christ Continues Growth in Bohol with New Stake Center

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints reached a milestone in the province of Bohol with the dedication of the new Tagbilaran Philippines Stake Center on August 30, 2026.

Located along North Carlos P. Garcia Avenue in the provincial capital of Tagbilaran City, the new stake center will also serve as a meetinghouse for two wards or congregations, Cortes and Tagbilaran 2nd, as well as the home of the Tagbilaran Philippines Institute of Religion, providing a dedicated place of religious education for young people.

Elder D. Dan Nuñez, Area Seventy, presided over the dedication. Other Church leaders present included President Marben O. Belarmino of Tagbilaran Philippines Stake; Brother Julius Barrientos, Area Director for Seminaries and Institutes of Religion; President and Sister W. Jared Scott of the Philippines Cebu East Mission; Bishop Darwin Hubac of Cortes Ward; and Bishop Christian Merciales of Tagbilaran 2nd Ward.

“The new chapel is only a preparation for us to go to the temple built by Jesus Christ himself who is the chief cornerstone,” Elder Nuñez emphasized during the dedication, also stressing that “the Church is a living Church … it grows.”

Several public officials were given a special Open House tour of the facilities a day before the dedication program, namely: Provincial Board Member Venzencio B. Arcamo; Provincial Legal Officer, Atty. Handel Lagunay, representing Governor Erico Aristotle Aumentado; Mr. Diovel Mar, representing Vice Governor Pacifico Nicanor S. Besas Jr.; and City Councilor Eliezer L. Borja, representing Tagbilaran City Mayor Jane Censoria C. Yap.

The guests were also treated to a cultural program showcasing the rich heritage, traditions, and faith of the Boholano Latter-day Saint community.

President Belarmino reminded Church members that the new stake center is a “treasure box that holds the precious pearl of great price, which is the gospel of Jesus Christ” and hoped that it would become “a place where the broken are healed, the lost find direction, and the weary find rest.”

Bishop Hubac recalled that for more than 20 years, “we only do our meetings and activities in a rented meetinghouse. We transferred to several meetinghouses, and now it's a dream come true to have our own ward chapel. Truly, the Lord will bless His people.”

Besides its distinct architectural design, the new three-story stake center has become a notable landmark due to its presence in one of the city's busiest commercial districts. Equipped with modern facilities, the building is designed to meet the needs of members and all who seek to worship and learn about Jesus Christ.
