A spirit of compassion and unity guided members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints as relief assistance was provided to families affected by a fire incident in Barangay 39, Negros Occidental, on February 27, 2026.

The fire affected 213 individuals, including two member families. In response, members of the Bacolod 3rd Ward of the Bacolod Philippines Stake organized a donation drive to help meet immediate needs as families began recovering from the loss of their homes and belongings.
Relief goods were formally turned over on March 28, 2026, in the presence of affected residents and local officials. Barangay Captain Dante S. Danoy, together with barangay representatives, received the donations on behalf of the community. Also present during the turnover were Councilor Wilson Gamboa, representatives from the Department of Social Services and Development (DSSD), including Dr. Richelle Mangga, and former OIC Sister Alma Gustilo, expressing support for the continuing recovery efforts.
The donation initiative was presided over by President Dan John Adduru De Guzman, Second Counselor in the Bacolod Philippines Stake Presidency, who emphasized the importance of unity and service during times of hardship. He noted that acts of compassion reflect the Savior’s teachings to care for one another, especially those facing unexpected challenges.
The donated relief packs included personal hygiene supplies, while additional boxes contained essential household items such as utensils, plates, cups, and other daily necessities intended to help families begin rebuilding their routines after the disaster.
Members of the stake worked together to prepare and organize the assistance, demonstrating a shared commitment to support their neighbors and strengthen the community during a difficult time. Their efforts reflected the Church’s continuing humanitarian mission to respond to urgent needs and provide timely relief wherever possible.
More than providing material support, the activity offered encouragement and reassurance to affected families. Through coordinated service and cooperation with community leaders, the initiative helped remind residents that they are not alone as they move forward in recovery and rebuilding.
Across the Philippines, members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints continue to participate in community-based efforts that reflect the Savior’s example of compassion, strengthening families and communities through service and unity.
