Church Donation Brings Hope and Mobility to Lung Center Patients

A story of compassion and collaboration unfolded on October 22, 2025, as The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints formally turned over 66 wheelchairs to the Lung Center of the Philippines (LCP). The donation aims to provide essential mobility support to patients of the government-run hospital, which specializes in treating lung diseases.

This partnership began when Ms. Germelyn De Mesa and Nurse Cheryl Dumaliang, President and Vice President of the Lung Center of the Philippines Nurses’ Association (LCPNA), submitted a formal request to the Church through Elder Emelito Orencia, an Area Service Missionary.

Following coordination with Brother Abenir Pajaro, Area Welfare and Self-Reliance Manager of the Church, an ocular visit was conducted in June 2025 to assess the hospital’s needs. The request was soon approved.

At the LCPNA President’s request, the turnover ceremony was scheduled during Nurses Week, adding significance to the event.

Held at the Lung Center at 1:00 PM, the donation was received by Lung Center of the Philippines representatives led by:

  • Dr. Jubert Benedicto, Officer-in-Charge and Executive Director
  • Mr. Gerardo Lirag, Director for Nursing Services
  • Mr. Sherwin Aquino, Department Manager III, Nursing Services

The turnover ceremony was also attended by:

  • Brother Abenir Pajaro, Area Welfare and Self-Reliance Manager
  • Elder Emelito Orencia, Humanitarian Services Senior Missionary
  • Elder and Sister Javier, Senior Service Missionaries
  • Elder and Sister Araojo, Senior Service Missionaries
  • Brother Jude Solidarios, Humanitarian Project Specialist
  • Sister Vivian Reamon, Communication Director, Quezon City Mission Coordinating Council
  • Brother Marvin Doroteo, High Councilor, Quezon City Stake

The event underscored the shared commitment of both organizations to uplift the community. Through this donation, the Church continues its global humanitarian mission to provide aid regardless of race or religion.

“The donation of wheelchairs becomes possible through the sacrifices of humble people—farmers, fishermen, and ordinary workers—who fast and donate the money they save to help others,” said Brother Abenir Pajaro.

“We are deeply grateful for this donation,” said Dr. Jubert Benedicto. “These wheelchairs will greatly help our patients and ease their recovery.”

“Service is at the heart of the gospel of Jesus Christ,” added Brother Pajaro. “This project reflects our belief that when we serve others, we serve God.”

Brother Marvin Doroteo shared, “The donation of 66 wheelchairs is more than just physical assistance—it is a symbol of love, hope, and compassion.”

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints regularly conducts humanitarian projects worldwide, providing wheelchairs, medical supplies, clean water, and emergency relief to those in need.
