Church Donates Services Boats, Safety Equipment for Learners in Sorsogon Island Barangay

In a gesture of partnership and compassion, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, together with TV5's Alagang Kapatid Foundation, donated a service boat and emergency safety equipment to support learners in Barangay Sablayan, an island barangay in the municipality of Juban, south of Sorsogon City.

The handover ceremony was held on February 4, 2026, at the Tughan Fish Landing in Juban, bringing together local government officials, partner organizations, and Church representatives. President Noe Salvan of the Sorsogon Philippines District Presidency represented the Church, joined by Church humanitarian services personnel.

The project originated from a request by Warlito Guerrero, an Alternative Learning System (ALS) teacher who serves students in Barangay Sablayan,  a community accessible only by water. Recognizing the urgent need, Guerrero reached out to TV5's Alagang Kapatid Foundation, which then enlisted the support of the Church. The donated boat can accommodate up to 30 persons and was equipped with associated safety gear to ensure the protection of students during water crossings.

For President Salvan, the donation reflects the Church's deep commitment to education as both a spiritual and temporal value.

"This project shows how much the Church values education. We believe in having a balance between spiritual and temporal learning. For students from the island, education may be the bridge they need to get from where they are to where they can be," President Salvan said.

The donation is part of a series of humanitarian efforts by the Church in the Philippines, underscoring its commitment to serving communities in need  regardless of geography or circumstance.
