Church Donates Critical Medical Equipment to Major Laguna Hospital

To help address pressing medical needs and support local healthcare infrastructure, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints officially handed over life-sustaining medical equipment to San Pablo City General Hospital (SPCGH) in San Pablo City, Laguna on September 2, 2026.

Supplying vital tools needed to monitor and stabilize critically ill patients, the donated equipment package includes an advanced mechanical ventilator with adult breathing circuit assemblies, respiratory humidifier, backup battery systems, integrated monitoring display for respiratory support, multi-parameter patient monitor, clinical infusion and syringe pump units, filters, and standard emergency accessories.

"We believe in extending this donation because service comes straight from the heart," explained President Ronnel Catungos of San Pablo Philippines Stake, who was one of the Church’s representatives during the turnover.

Referencing a passage from the Book of Mormon (Mosiah 2:17) stating that “when ye are in the service of your fellow beings, ye are only in the service of your God,” President Catungos emphasized that the Church’s focus on Christian love and selfless service “is the spirit behind why we are here to support our brothers and sisters."

Hospital leaders emphasized that the new equipment comes at a pivotal moment, as SPCGH works toward licensing and opening its first dedicated Intensive Care Unit (ICU).

"This donation is genuinely vital to our services," said Dr. Jomer Mendeguarin, Chief of Hospital. "We are deeply grateful; this comes at such a timely moment. On behalf of our mayor and my colleagues here at the hospital, thank you. We hope for continued support as we look toward addressing further patient needs down the line."

The donation aims to strengthen critical care delivery for a facility operating under heavy demand. Hospital records show bed occupancy rates regularly exceed standard capacity — reaching as high as 122% to 131% in peak months, with monthly admissions surpassing 300 patients.

Attendees representing the local government and hospital administration included Joy Josephine Gimpaya, administrative officer representing the Office of the City Mayor, and Fatima Berguila, hospital administrator.

Church representatives present also included Bishop Kit Sanchez of San Pablo 3rd Ward; Brother Lance Tirazona, Sister Raquel Tirazona and Brother Procy Sarate, all from the Church’s humanitarian services department; Elder and Sister Cronin, humanitarian missionaries; and Brother Edilberto Andal and Brother Tracy Bohn of the stake communications council.
