Church Culminates National Family Week With #BFF Color Run

For the first time, members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and their friends gathered together to culminate the week-long celebration of the 27^th National Family Week with fun and colors. Dubbed as the #BFF Color Run, the activity brought together over 5,000 runners and their families to Aseana City, Parañaque.

While the early-morning activity was fun in nature, the Church organized the event with life lessons infused into the program to help strengthen family relationships.

At each sound of the starting pistol, waves of 500 fun runners in their white t-shirts raced or brisk walked through the 5,000-kilometer racetrack, first passing through the foam tunnel to get drenched in preparation for the fun part – the color run.

As they ran, kids of all ages passed through three stations that symbolized stages that families go through to progress to “forever families” – a belief that is at the heart of Latter-day Saint doctrine.

The first station that the participants ran through signified obedience to God’s commandments as a manifestation of their love for God. The second color station taught about making and keeping promises or covenants to Heavenly Father. The third and last station taught about the establishment of strong, multi-generational families through obedience to His commandments.

As runners passed through each station, volunteers pummelled them with food-grade colored dust. At the finish line, an explosion of colorful dust and #BFF medals greeted the runners.

In essence, the #BFF Color Run wasn’t just for the athletes. It was an avenue for families to bond together in a fun and healthy way as well as to meet other families who have different religious beliefs.

Bonding with Families with Fun Activities

For those who chose not to run, spectators were treated to musical performances from Latter-day Saint artists like Enos Perez and Mikee Misalucha.

Meanwhile, other Latter-day Saint talents graced the event, such as Eric “Eruption” Tai, host, gamer, athlete and dancer; Dwaine Woolley, event host, actor, singer and vlogger; Janella Renner, CNN Philippines Junior Anchor, and Jairus Aquino, ABS-CBN actor.

Participants of the #BFF Color Run consisted of members of the Church from 20 stakes (dioceses) within Metro Manila and their friends from 51 member agencies of the National Committee on the Filipino Family, 24 member organizations from Uniharmony Partners Manila, and representatives from UNICEF Philippines, Caritas Manila, and HERO Foundation.

About #BFF Building Forever Families

The Church’s #BFF family initiative was a play around the popular hashtag “Best Friends Forever” but with a twist. For many families, the acronym meant more than just friendship as #BFF also meant “Building Forever Families”, “Building Forever Families”, “Bridging Families through Family history”, “Bonding with Family in a Fun run”, and most importantly, “Building Families through Faith in Jesus Christ”.
