Church Begins Distribution of 2,000 Relief Packs for Pampanga Families

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints began distributing 2,000 relief packs to families affected by the recent floods in Pampanga province on September 12, 2026, with the first distribution held in Barangay Remedios, Lubao municipality.

The humanitarian effort aims to provide immediate assistance to families recovering from the recent flooding that affected thousands of residents across Pampanga, particularly communities in the province’s second legislative district.

Ahead of the distribution, 60 Church volunteers contributed a combined 240 hours of service to repack the relief goods. The volunteer effort was spearheaded by President Ivan Anthony Hirro of Lubao Philippines Stake, in coordination with local bishops throughout the stake.

“The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, ang gusto talaga nating mangyari is to extend God’s love to each of His children,” said Bishop Brian Santiago of Lubao 1st Ward. “Kahapon, we asked the members, and there were many volunteers. Talagang ginawa nila ang effort nila to repack itong mga ipapamahagi nating relief goods.”

(“What we really want as The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is to extend God’s love to each of His children. Yesterday, we asked the members to help, and many volunteered. They really made the effort to repack the relief goods that we will distribute.”)

The Church worked closely with local government officials to help ensure that assistance reached families in affected communities.

“We coordinated with the local government unit, kaya nandito tayo ngayon. Hiningi natin ang tulong nila to distribute help from the Church,” Bishop Santiago added.

(“We coordinated with the local government unit, which is why we are here today. We asked for their help in distributing the assistance from the Church.”)

Local leaders and residents of Barangay Remedios expressed their appreciation for the assistance.

“Nagpapasalamat po kami sa munting handog po ng The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints,” said Barangay Captain Soledad Miguel.

(“We are grateful for this gift from The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.”)

Resident Elena Miguel likewise expressed her gratitude, saying, “Nagpapasalamat po kami sa dumating na grasya sa aming baryo sa pangunguna po ng The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.”

(“We are grateful for the blessing that has come to our community through The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.”)

Former Philippines President and Pampanga 2nd District Representative Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo also thanked the Church for extending humanitarian assistance to her constituents.

“I want to thank The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints for giving out relief packs in my Second District of Pampanga. Thank you very much for that!” Arroyo said.

The relief operation follows the ceremonial signing of a Deed of Donation benefiting approximately 2,000 flood-affected families during the Church’s World Humanitarian Day Friendship Luncheon on September 10.

During the gathering, Arroyo highlighted the faith and spirit of service behind the Church’s humanitarian efforts:

“For Latter-day Saints, humanitarian work is not an occasional gesture, but an expression of discipleship.”

The relief effort will continue on Tuesday, September 15, at the Lubao Stake Center, where Representative Macapagal-Arroyo will join Church leaders, mayors, and representatives from three severely affected municipalities in distributing the remaining relief packs to flood-affected families.

The humanitarian effort reflects the mission of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints to follow the example of Jesus Christ by caring for those in need, relieving suffering, and strengthening individuals, families, and communities. Through humanitarian assistance and collaboration with government and community partners, the Church seeks to extend Christlike love to all people, regardless of faith, nationality, or background.
