In a compassionate effort to support families affected by the Aroma fire, the Manila Philippines Stake (diocese) of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, in partnership with Upskills+ Foundation Inc., organized a back-to-school initiative for children and families in need.

Held on June 14 in Tondo, Manila, the outreach program provided school supplies, uniforms, and shoes to children impacted by the fire—just in time for the start of the new school year. For many families, it was more than a simple distribution; it was a reminder that they are remembered and supported.
The turnover was attended by representatives of Upskills+ Foundation Inc., led by Welfare Manager Ma. Theresa Sarmiento. They were joined by the Manila Stake Presidency, composed of President Stephen Casio and counselors President Bernard Vergaño and President Fidel Anthony Doinog. Also in attendance were Elder and Sister Gardner from Latter-day Saint Charities, along with members of the Tondo 2nd Ward and Sta. Cruz Ward, who worked together to prepare and distribute the school kits.
The event was filled with a spirit of unity and compassion, made even more meaningful by the smiles and gratitude of the families who received assistance.
John Michael Duazo, an Upskills+ Foundation scholar, expressed his gratitude for the donation, calling the school supplies “an immediate and practical blessing. It eased the financial burden on my family and will allow me to focus on my studies without the stress of acquiring the necessary materials.”
Welfare Manager Ma. Theresa Sarmiento highlighted the Church’s long-standing support for Upskills+, even before the fire in Brgy. 105. “They played a significant role during relief operations by providing kitchen and eating utensils, food packs, and bedding. Thank you very much for all your help to our beneficiaries and the people of Tondo.”
In his remarks, President Casio extended sincere thanks to Upskills+ Foundation Inc., volunteers from both organizations, and the senior missionaries who made the initiative possible. “Through service and compassion, hope continues to reach those who need it most,” he added.
