LEGAZPI CITY- The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, in a ceremony held on May 2, 2023, at the Legazpi Stake Center, officially handed over learning support and office equipment to the Bicol University (BU) Accounting Department. Bicol University, the premier state university in the Bicol Region, received a generous donation from the Church, including multimedia projectors, laptops, photocopy machines, calculators, a smart TV, and an Elmo. This contribution forms part of the Church's ongoing initiative to support education programs worldwide.
Various distinguished guests and university officials attended the event, including the incumbent BU President, Dr. Baby Boy Benjamin D. Nebres III; BU Vice President for Academic Affairs, Dr. Juliet Borres; Dean Edgar Barrameda of the College of Business Economics and Management; Accountancy Department Chair, Prof. Analiza Pabilona; and Director of the International Relations Office, Dr. Dimson Rivero. Additionally, former BU President, Dr. Arnulfo Mascariñas, and his wife, BU Graduate School Dean Dr. Jane Mascariñas, graced the occasion with their presence.
BU officials expressed their heartfelt gratitude for the generous donations. Dr. Juliet Borres, BU Vice President for Academic Affairs, warmly welcomed the equipment as a "gesture of generosity" and emphasized the university's commitment to the ongoing partnership program with Church's Brigham Young University – Hawaii (BYU). Dr. Borres believes that the donated equipment will significantly contribute to the professional and personal growth of numerous students. She stated, "Our hearts are full of gratitude, and I hope that this kind of partnership and gesture of generosity from this noble Church will continue in the future. We will always welcome further support, as the presentation indicated, the best is yet to come."
Presiding over the ceremony on behalf of the Church was President Rodrigo Raquel Dorosan, the Legazpi Stake President. Notable attendees included Brother John Balledos and Sister Teresa Pangilinan from the Church's Welfare and Self Reliance Services department, as well as counselors from the Legazpi Stake presidency, Church members, and friends of the Church.
