On March 18, 2023, the Relief Society Organization of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints celebrated its 181st anniversary in various locations in the Philippines. The celebrations were anchored on themes that empower women through their faith in Jesus Christ.
In Mangaldan, the theme was “I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me” from Philippians 4:13. President Ramon Ali P. Aromin congratulated the leaders and members for their service, dedication, and unity. Awards were given to each ward for their achievements in family history work and Hawaiian-themed dance performances.
In San Fernando La Union, the theme was “Empowering Women Through The Relief Society”. Several units showcased their talents through dance presentations inspired by “The Greatest Showman”. La Union Governor Hon. Raphaelle Veronica Ortega David was invited to speak but was represented by Provincial Board Member Hon. Maria Rosario Eufrosina “Chary” P. Nisce who read her message. Governor Ortega expressed her confidence in every woman’s worth and ability to reach their goals, stating “Kababaihan muna, Babae tayo, Hindi babae lang”. Sister Gloria Corazon M. Andrada, the Stake Relief Society President shared how Jesus Christ empowers women to carry out the focus and purposes of the Relief Society and encouraged sisters to “continue to be strong, to be faithful and to always focus our attention to the Lord”. As the celebration concluded, President Josue G. Jundos reminded all women that in their quest to improve in this life, they must not forget their most important roles- first, as a daughter of our Father in Heaven, and as a mother (for those who are mothers) in their homes.
In Novaliches, the theme was centered on Doctrine and Covenants 88:119 which encourages organizing and preparing every needful thing. Mini-classes were offered on topics such as Mental Health, First Aid, Dental Health, Disaster Preparedness, Livelihood and Entrepreneurship (Hydroponics) and Physical Therapy. Resource persons for each topic were invited from experts within the stake.
These celebrations were not only filled with fun and enjoyment but also provided spiritual experiences for the Relief Society sisters as they felt empowered to continue to fulfill their divine roles and be examples in their homes, church, and community.
The Relief Society organizes a variety of activities to help its members increase their faith, strengthen their families and homes, and serve those in need. Some examples of activities organized by the Relief Society include skill classes where members can learn new talents and abilities from others in their ward, service projects to help those in need and social events such as favorite things parties or soup and swap events. The Relief Society also provides opportunities for gospel learning and spiritual growth through Sunday meetings, ministering, and other interactions.
